Award-winning
poet and children's book
author Valiska Gregory has published over a
dozen
books for children. Translated in seven
different
languages, her books have received
Parents'
Choice Awards, been chosen for the
American
Booksellers' "Pick of the Lists," and
been featured on PBS and national television.

Ms. Gregory enjoys speaking at schools,
libraries,
and conferences across the country,
and
she regularly reviews children's books for
Publishers
Weekly. She has taught every grade from kindergarten to
seniors in college and is currently Writer-in-residence at Butler
University where she directs the annual Butler University Children's
Literature Conference. Her poetry manuscripts (for adults) are
housed in the rare book room at the University of Wisconsin with
the Juniper Press collection.
Ms. Gregory grew up in an immigrant neighborhood in Chicago, has
two grown daughters, and lives with her husband, Dr. Marshall
Gregory, Ice Professor of English at Butler University, in Indianapolis.
Her daughter, Melissa Gregory, is a professor of Victorian literature
and is married to playwright Eric Pfeffinger. Her other daughter,
Holly Gregory, is a two-time Emmy award winner for her PBS television
show for children.
Ms.
Gregory is the founding director of the annual Butler University
Children's Literature Conference, attended by teachers, librarians,
and author/illustrators since 1991.
