| ROBERT LIPSYTE BIOGRAPHY I BOOKS I PRESENTATIONS I BOOK ORDERING TYPE OF VISITS: Bob has spoken at schools, libraries, and conferences, including large conferences. He's comfortable with any type of audience.
PROGRAM TOPICS: Bob is happy to work with you if you'd like him to talk about a specific topic. But he also has a variety of topics he has developed if you prefer to choose from one of these:
Jock Culture: He discusses jock culture from high schools to college to professional sports. He's written a good deal about a variety of sports and sports figures and can speak knowledgably about this subject on a number of levels.
Journalism: Having written for the New York Times and other newspapers, he knows the ins and outs of newspaper reporting and sports-writing; he can also discuss journalism on-line and for radio and TV. He would welcome the opportunity to speak to students working on the school paper or any who are interested in journalism.
The Writing Process: He discusses plot, voice, character development, and other aspects of writing articles, stories, and books, and offers tips on developing a process that works best for your students.
The Writer's Life: Bob talks about his own background and how he became a journalist and author of young adult novels. A discussion on how he gets his ideas and develops them into books is included, as is a talk about the books he's written.
GROUP SIZE PREFERENCE AND HOW MANY SESSIONS PER DAY: Although he can speak to large groups, he prefers to speak to small classroom-sized groups. He'll do up to 3 sessions a day per school.
EQUIPMENT NEEDS: He would need a handheld mike for larger groups.
HONORARIUM: $2,000 + expenses (travel, hotel, and meals as necessary).
