Jacqueline Sweeney's Presentations

Jacqueline Sweeney gives up to three sessions a day (children should be grouped by grade). She normally works with two or three classes grouped together, but she can speak to large groups as well. For kindergarteners, she has the children draw pictures, then develops a story using one picture, one word and/or one theme.

The age level of her books, all of which stress Ethical Thinking and Character Development, ranges from K-6, but she can speak to older children as well.

Ms. Sweeney is available for one day visits, 5 day visits, and anything in between.

Workshops for children - Ms. Sweeney prefers to work with about 20 students per workshop, but she can handle up to 50. She does a variety of workshops, including writing workshops and curriculum themed workshops. Teachers should feel free to discuss their needs with her so she can tailor the workshops to fit the curriculum. Whatever the curriculum, she can tailor the workshop to fit it.

Therapy program - Ms. Sweeney has worked with children who are reluctant readers and reluctant writers, who are dyslexic or have other problems. She used to teach special ed. classes herself and has developed a program specifically for special ed. students.

Teacher training - Ms. Sweeney has also written several professional books, and she uses these professional books in workshops for teachers. She can speak to both small and large groups of teachers. She has presentations that are geared to teaching teachers how to work with reluctant readers and writers and special needs students.

Workshops for teachers, reading specialists, librarians, special ed. teachers spanning grades K-8 - These workshops can last one hour or all day, depending on the size and needs of the group. She's happy to work with both large or small groups. Topics may include: 'Motivating Reluctant Writers,' 'Teaching Poetry: Yes You Can!' or 'Preparing for Poetry Component of State Tests (including ELA).'

She has also coordinated a successful 5 week Poetry/Art/Music Program that crossed curriculum with grades 1-5 and involved both Art and Music teachers working from one piece of writing per grade level within their separate mediums----culminating in an art/music/poetry performance night for each grade. Such a program can be tailored to fit the needs of the school or group.

Honorarium - Her fee structure is as follows:

$1,000 a day plus expenses - for teacher training programs

$1,200 to $1,500 a day plus expenses - for workshops to teachers or students

$1,200 to $1,500 a day plus expenses - for Author's Day programs, especially those involving workshops.

The honorarium is due following the last presentation on the final day of the visit.
