Programs

For K-2:

* Discuss where my ideas come from

* Read aloud a picture book (slides optional)

* Show different stages of bookmaking, from manuscript to finished book

For 2-5:

* Show slides of the haunted house in which I grew up as well as pictures of my family, pets, and my office

* Tell children how I got the idea for The Battlefield Ghost

* Show slides of the Princeton Battlefield, Hessian soldiers, George Washington, and more

* Talk about the imagination and the choices made by an author when writing a book

* Read to children from the book

* Get them to guess the ending

Presentations:

* Will do up to 3 presentations a day (most effective when groups are limited to 75 children).

* Will do an additional presentation to kindergardeners (about 15-20 minutes)

* Will also autograph books. It's best to pre-sell them and have me autograph them toward the end of the school day.

Equipment:

* I'll bring slides, slide projector, and cordless microphone.

Fee:

* The honorarium should be presented to the author at the end of the last session on the last day of the visit. Her honorarium ranges from $1,000 a day, plus expenses for a full-day (three presentations) school visit within one half hour from Princeton, New Jersey; to $1,200 a day, plus expenses for a full-day visit for out-of-town appearances.  To discuss other variations on her honorarium, please contact Balkin Buddies by email or phone.
