PATRICIA
HERMES
BIOGRAPHY
I
BOOKS
I PRESENTATIONS
I BOOK ORDERING
PROGRAMS:
Assemblies
will be given, no longer than forty-five minutes -- shorter for
younger childern. She will give up to, but no more than, three presentations
per day.
OTHER
PROGRAMS:
Writing
workshops are available with small groups, (size depending on school
needs) in which kids are helped to create their own stories and
get a chance to see the revision process in action.
If
you'd like her to stay longer or arrange a separate visit, workshops
are available for parents and teachers.
A
WORD FROM PATRICA HERMES:
It
is my goal to make the author visit experience so tailored to each
student and each class, that at the end of the day, each student
will feel that he or she has been touched directly. In my presentations,
I do far more than just talk about how each book came into being.
With specific examples, I show the revision process - I revise my
books about ten times! -- and show children how they can have their
own writing published, not just when they are all grown up, but
today. I show them rejection slips - I have dozens and dozens -
and show them the different steps to really professional writing.
And if I do my job well, each teacher and media specialist also
will have something new and exciting to bring back to her or his
classroom work. This will be, not only educational and informative,
but fun! "What a wonderful experience!" one reading specialist
wrote after one of my presentations. That excitement and energy
is what I mean to bring to every school and every presentation.
PRESENTATION
SET-UP AND EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
Patricia
Hermes needs:
1)
A microphone. The best is, of course, a cordless lavalier or, if
that's not available, one that can be removed from a stand so that
Ms Hermes can move around and be involved with the audience.
2)
A table for books and visual aids.
3)
A glass of water nearby is always appreciated.
When
staying overnight, a hotel room (rather than a motel or staying
with a family) is appreciated.
AUTOGRAPHING:
Patricia
Hermes will do as much autographing as requested, paperback books
included.
HONORARIUM:
Ms.
Hermes honorarium is due after the last session on the last day.
Generally speaking, her honorarium is $1,600 a day, plus expenses.
For further information, especially about the expenses (travel,
hotel, and meals), click the "Arrange An Appearance" button
and see "General Information on the Cost of an Author Appearance"
as well as the 'Honorariums' section near the bottom of "How
to Plan an Author Appearance."
FLIGHT
ARRANGEMENTS:
Ms.
Hermes prefers to make her own flight reservations and have the
organization reimburse her. If it's necessary for the organization
to make the flight, please confirm all the particulars (date, flight
time, layovers) with Ms. Hermes.
