Elaine Landau
offers a number of presentations geared for different age levels
ranging from first grade through high school as well as adults.
PROGRAM
DESCRIPTIONS (CHILDREN'S PRESENTATIONS):
Younger
children enjoy the following presentations, the titles of which
explain the content of the programs (please contact BalkinBuddies
where any clarification is needed):
'Legends
of the Wild West'
'Scary
Animal Fun'
'Popcorn,
Apples, and Bananas ø Read It ø Eat It'
'Smokejumpers:
Fighting Fires in the Wilderness'
The
above programs can be successfully adapted for older reluctant readers
as well.
Middle
graders and high school students enjoy the following presentations,
and again, if the titles don't explain the content of the programs

'History
through Biography: A View of the Past through the Lives of Those
Who Helped Shape It'
'Secrets
of the Titanic and Other Sea Disasters'
'So
You Want To Be A Writer: A Look at the Many Rewarding Careers in
the World of Writing'
All
programs are 50 minutes long and include slide presentations and
question and answer periods. Presentations for grade 4 and up also
have a fun writing exercise.
PROGRAM
DESCRIPTIONS (ADULT PRESENTATIONS):
The
following topics are available for adult presentations at adult
conferences and seminars, and the titles offer a brief description
of the content of the programs:
'The
Whole Truth and Nothing But the Truth: Nonfiction In Schools and
Libraries'
'The
Nonfiction Writing Process: From Start to Finish'
'The
Best of Both: Combining Your School or Library Career with Writing
Children's Books'
EQUIPMENT
NEEDS:
A
table, screen, slide projector, extension cord, and a pitcher of
water.
HONORARIUM
& NUMBER OF PROGRAMS PER DAY:
$800
a day for up to three school programs, plus travel, hotel, and food
costs. Lower rates possible for schools in or near Miami. $850 a
day for 4 sessions (2 regular length sessions; 2 shorter sessions
for K.)
The
honorarium should be presented by the end of the last day of the
visit.
