Novak's Presentations
Matt Novak does presenations for K-6. During a full day visit,
he will do up to three 45-60 minute sessions.
Each
session is unique. There is a lot of audience participation. He
calls on the children to suggest characters for a story that has
never existed before. He creates drawings at every session (please
provide a pad and easel for his use).
He
also gets the children to join him in creating some artwork of their
own. The emphasis is on imagination and using it to create a story
from start to finish. Along the way, the students learn how words
and pictures work together to bring stories to life. He uses a lot
of improvisation techniques and a repertoire of silly voices, zany
mannerisms, and goofy jokes to pull it all together so the children
will leave with more ideas than they came in with. Finally,
he answers questions from the children and teachers.
He
loves to sign books for the kids. If you would like to include a
book-signing session during the day, please allow enough time.
Matt is somewhat flexible, so if there is some other activity that
the school would like to include as part of the special day for
the kids, he would be happy to discuss it.
For
adult presentations, he does a slide show (please provide the projector,
carousel, and a room that can be darkened; and for large groups,
he also needs a microphone).
Matt
is also available for Artist-in-Resident Workshops, and the outline
of a sample workshop is shown below:
