When
I was a little girl, which
my
son Jamie says was "once
upon
a time, long, long ago...
and
getting longer every day..."
(what
a comedian!), anyway,
my
favorite books were The
Little
Engine That Could,
Alice
in Wonderland, Little
Women,
and The Wizard of Oz.
Of
course, I watched TV too. I
was
crazy for that bunny named
Bugs,
and I still do love 'Lucy.'
Jamie
always gasps, "Mom, you
were
B.C!!!?? (that's right, I was
watching...before
color.)
Here's
the rest of my short
story...in
black and white. I was
born,
played, crayoned, went to
school,
and grew up in Edison, NJ.
Yes,
that's the town named after Thomas You-Know-Who, and where he
invented the light bulb at his laboratory in Menlo Park. My sister,
brother, and I played all kinds of imaginary games, including
'horse,' and 'dog,' and 'cat.' (That's where I got my idea
for The Perfect Pet.
I
doodled an dabbled at Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia,
PA. Today, all grown up, I live, play, and still crayon, doodle
and dabble in Plainfield, NJ. I live there in a big old
white house with my husband, who works in advertising, our 'little
boy' who is not so little anymore--but still makes messesÑ(okay,
okay, I still do too!), and our cat, J.B.
I
really like writing funny stories and knowing they make children
all across the country laugh out loud. Of course, all my ideas
must first pass Jamie's giggle test. I wouldn't think of writing
a story without his say-so and a-okay. Silliness is serious business.
And Jamie knows his sillies. Not to mention his chuckles. He is,
in a word--okay, two--my inspiration.
