PRESENTATIONS
FOR CHILDREN
It
is exciting for Joanne to share with audiences, especially children,
the one most important thing she has learned about writing a story.
*Writing is a magical, crazy, mysterious process,* she says, *but
it's the same process for everyone, young or older, teacher or student,
published or unpublished. We all start with a blank page, often
a scared feeling inside, and observations and memories taken straight
from our own lives.* In her presentations, she shows kids exactly
how that magic happens for her, explains some of its mysteries,
and gives lots of surprising tips to inspire stories.
Her
visit to a school may include:
*
A maximum of three (3) " Sharing Secrets" - Large Assemblies.
*
(Each is a 60-minute interactive talk using a puppet, a video presentation,
readings, and student participation for 1st grade and up; the grade
division is at the school's discretion. Kindergarten may attend
as well.)
*
Classroom-ready handouts for each class:
(1)
"Draw Your Own Street" based on her presentation
(2)
"Joanne Rocklin's Magic Story Builders"
*
Book signings
*
Written correspondence after her visit
*
Optional instead of assemblies: individual classroom visits, 30
minutes each.
PRESENTATIONS
FOR ADULTS
Joanne
has a slide presentation that highlights her work as an author,
which she give to kids but it can be used with adults, as well as
an informal (no slides) presentation.
She
also has a presentation talking about the connection between the
structure of children's books and their relation to developmental
needs (in her role as a psychologist.).
HONORARIUM
Ms.
Rocklin's honorarium is due the end of the day on the last day of
her appearance and is determined school by school. However,
should you need a dollar amount in advance to write grants, etc.,
her range would be between $800 to $1,000 a day, plus expenses (3
sessions). She's also available to do an additional short
presentation to Kindergarteners for a small additional fee.
For
further information, especially about the expenses (travel, hotel,
and meals), click the "Arrange An Appearance" button and
see "General Information on the Cost of an Author Appearance"
as well as the 'Honorariums' section near the bottom of "How
to Plan an Author Appearance."
