BIOGRAPHY

Elizabeth
Shreeve grew up
in
a family of writers and
scientists
who taught her to
chase
butterflies and otherwise
scare
the daylights out of small
creatures
in the local marshes
and
fields. She also liked to read
and
would have become a
librarian
if books could be stored outdoors.
In
addition to publications in the
field
of urban design, Elizabeth
is
the author of The Adventures
of
Hector Fuller, a chapter book
series
that is part of Aladdin/
Simon
& Schuster's "Ready for
Chapters"
books for new readers.
A
graduate of Harvard College
and
the Harvard Graduate School
of
Design, Elizabeth now lives in
northern
California where she
balances
a career in environ-
mental
design with writing stories
and
reading in silly voices to her
husband
and their sons. The
origin
of Hector Fuller's name
and
species is a closely-held
family
secret that Elizabeth is happy to share at book signings and school
visits, where she talks with children about the natural world,
the life of a writer, and the joys of becoming a life-long reader.
Elizabeth
is a member of SCBWI (Society
of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators), NCCBA (Northern
California Children's Booksellers Association), and SEED (School
Environmental Education Docents).
Accelerated
Reader Quizzes Available on the Hector Books
Designed
for newly independent readers not quite ready for novels, the
books also appeal to reluctant readers and are fun to read aloud.
Accelerated Reader quizzes are available for all the books (AR
levels 3.4-3.8), which are available in library bindings through
Follett and Perma-Bound. The first story will soon be available
as a grade-school script, adapted by the author.
Praise
for Hector Fuller
It
was a delightful pleasure meeting you on Wednesday and thank you
for visiting Washington Elementary in San Gabriel . We had many
visitors after school buying your books. I love Hector Fuller
and hope he has a VERY long and happy life. It was a great day

Thank
you for your outstanding presentations at Brookhaven Elementary
School . Your ability to hold the attention of so many children
in grades kindergarten to third is a testament to your skills
as a presenter. Your vast knowledge of your subject matter was
a tremendous asset once the question and answer session began.
The children walked away from the assembly highly motivated to
continue reading The Adventures of Hector Fuller ! You
were truly an inspiration to your audience and your response to
their letters was wonderful!

My
students listened enthusiastically while you read these books.
They visualized Hector and his friends, laughed at his predicaments,
and waited anxiously for each new chapter. Their thoughtful questions
and suggestions demonstrated a fondness for this lovable character.
Hector is a special guy!

Dear
Ms. Shreeve,
I
enjoyed listening to you! Your books are great! I like you! Does
Hector have teeth? I want to make a book when I grow up too. Do
you like bugs?
Sincerely,
Lauren

How's it like to be a writer?
Dear
Ms. Shreeve,
Thank
you for coming to my school. You are the best author I ever seen.
Could you come over my house sometime? I will ask my mom.
Love,
Hayley
